Novak has lived for centuries. He was Corporal Johnson B. Taylor during World War II — "The Red Skull" of the Black Sheep Penetration Platoon. Now he runs a high-end escort business in Bridgeport, Connecticut under the name Mr. Darte, carrying a family sabre with a silver strip down the center and the weight of every year he has survived.
Tooth is the most intimate book in the VSU trilogy — focused on a triangle of love: Murai, the supernatural companion who turned him centuries ago; K, the human woman who represents everything he longs for; and Veronica, the tragic collateral of a world that won't leave him alone. Through it all, Count Vigor's shadow falls across everything.

He was Corporal Johnson B. Taylor during WWII. He wields a family sabre with a silver strip down the center. Torn between his supernatural nature and his desire for humanity — he refuses to make the kill that would complete his transformation, keeping himself in an agonizing half-state. His story is the book's emotional core.
Murai
Ancient Companion & LoverNovak's ancient vampire companion. She originally bit Novak to preserve his life in hopes they would be together — a decision with centuries of unintended consequences. Long sheer black dress, black hair, fangs, a mobile phone on her wrist. Her blood tears are the result of a spell Count Vigor placed on her — every emotion of suffering brings blood to her eyes rather than water. Deeply devoted to Novak but carrying centuries of guilt.
The Love Interest
K
A young woman Novak meets at an underground club in Karlsruhe, Germany. She refuses to give her name initially, writing only the letter "K" on the wall. Medium brown straight hair, green eyes — striking in their roundness. Physically natural rather than society's sculpted ideal.
She is sharp, cool, independent, and deeply magnetic to Novak. Their first kiss in the club is one of the novel's most lyrical scenes. She becomes the human love of his life in Germany — representing hope, warmth, and the humanity he yearns for. Her full name is never revealed.

The Boss · Comic PresenceNovak's boss and nominal owner of the escort business — installed as a front. Very fat, very funny, business-savvy in a simple way. Constantly teases Novak about women. Shouts "THINK ABOUT IT!" while throwing books at doors. His daughter is Karis.
Karis McFadden
McFadden's Daughter24 years old. Works at the business, wears a gold name tag reading "McFadden," blonde feathered hair. Clearly in love with Novak — he treats her like a little sister. She attempts to seduce him more than once and is gently deflected each time. She embodies the longing for normal connection Novak can't allow himself.
Veronica Topein
The Client · Tragic CollateralA wealthy, strikingly beautiful new client — described as the most beautiful woman in the world. Long hair, big blue eyes, painted red fingernails. Arrives in a custom Porsche 944. Imperious, demanding, world-traveled. Novak escorts her to the Batman film premiere. She is killed at the theater by a werewolf — the book's first major named death.
Mrs. Parks
SecretaryA married secretary who brings folders to Novak's office. Novak pointedly calls her "Mrs. Parks" — she is not single. A brief but textured presence in the office world.

Dracul · The Cursed ManThe ancient vampire Count and primary supernatural antagonist. He placed the blood-tear spell on Murai. He kidnapped her from Novak's household — flying through a bedroom window with her in his arms. Appears in the elevator ambush wearing a 19th century dark cloak with a dagger bearing a single black obsidian stone. He has no reflection in mirrors. The Book of Vigore contains the history of his childhood and lineage.
Thulis
Dark AssassinThe dark vampire assassin who attacks Novak in the underground elevator. Tall, wearing a dark cloak, with black talons. Sent by Count Vigor to kill Novak. Murai intervenes, intercepting a dagger meant for Novak and jamming the elevator doors. He yells that he is "not convinced" of Novak's strength.

The Young Priest · KarlsruheThe priest at the Karlsruhe church where Novak rents an apartment above. Young, delicate features, thin nose, full lips, bright eyes. Deeply devoted Catholic with knowledge even the Pope fears. He seems to already know Novak's nature without being told. He gives Novak a small gold cross — "a good luck charm that really works, but only once and only for a special time." This is Father Brobova at his youngest — the earliest chronological point in his story across the entire trilogy.
Carmen
Church Keeper · KarlsruheThe young woman of Spanish descent who maintains the church. About 26, 105 pounds, goes pale from lack of sunlight. Novak recognizes she and he are "bonded by similar fate" though they exchange few words. Possibly a creature or cursed individual hiding within the church's protection.

The Nobleman — Vigor's father in the historical origin story. He appears holding a sword, confronting Satan who killed his child. He rushes into the woods to search for his son.
Satan — appears within flames, claiming compensation from the Nobleman. He is vanished by the Priest's "winds of truth." A narrative presence rather than a developed character.
The Priest — the medieval priest who faces Satan alongside the Nobleman. He speaks truth and banishes the Devil temporarily. A precursor to the priestly lineage that produces Father Brobova.
