Walk-In

What if the person living your life is not the one who started it?

A story that may not be finished telling itself.

The Setup

The Premise

A clock on the wall. Twenty-four hours, counting down. Two hosts — The Novie and ELLE-1 — and a single open phone line. Strangers call in. Some looking for answers. Some looking for a fight. All of them get the truth, whether they wanted it or not.

"When a Walk-In happens, you don't lose yourself. You become."

— The Novie
TRANSMISSION LOG 24:00:00

The Clock is set to 24:00:00. It immediately begins counting down.

He looks across at ELLE-1. 'So how much time do we have?'

ELLE-1 glances at the clock, then back at him. Her voice is quiet. 'Twenty-four hours. That's all I could get.'

The Novie gives a slow nod. The half-smile returns.

'Let the games begin.'

The first line lights up. ELLE-1 hits the button.

Is this shit for real?

THE NOVIE

I don't know. You for real?

The Hosts

N

The Novie

Master strategist. Military background in psychological operations. Direct, technical, unflinching. His philosophy: you're going to die anyway, so why are you in such a hurry to stay comfortable.

E

ELLE-1

Educator. The counterbalance. Compassionate but unwilling to let anything slide. Her philosophy: the only choice I have is to be happy.

The Source

Why This Book Exists

Walk-In pulls directly from the same well as D.2010: Quest for Consciousness — but where D.2010 documents, Walk-In confronts. The room is fiction. The callers are composite. The truths underneath them are not.
